It’s unfortunate to see creative teams be some of the most underrated in most organizations. Why? Because artists have a hard time quantifying what it is they do in business terms (yet provide some of the most necessary tools for businesses to grow (or am I wrong?! hah) 🧐). -  Join @sonyalpha   and I this Saturday the 14th to learn a bit about bridging the gap between business and creative in our class, Business of Photography 101. These last few weeks I went from 7+ hours of phone usage a day to 1 hour and a half. I realized my phone addiction took time away from a lot of important things in my life, (like seeing people in REAL life, and spending more actual quality time doing quality things with people close to me). To all the people that have texted me over the last couple of weeks, I appreciate you & promise I didn’t ignore you with bad intention, I just had to catch up with myself 🙏🏼. Self love is key, everything else follows. If you’re feeling anxious or overwhelmed, I trust you take time for yourself and spend it doing things that bring you back to basics, back to the real vision, back to who the best version of yourself is, and spend it with the people that matter. That is all. Much love always & let’s all win 🏆

The Finale.  On behalf of @forgetmat   , @m2collective   and myself, I’d like to thank everyone for your support, shares and reposts on our last post. Truly meant a lot to us that you guys liked the project as much as we liked making it.  The thing about photography is that we see the end result, not the process or the circumstances around us while the image was taken.I saw a recent post from @jaythreads   about the current migration of people heading to the Bronx to check our these stairs, something that has taken the community (and us) as a surprise, stirring a heavy debated conversation that got heated real fast. -  At first, I didn’t understand the problem, but after a peaceful private conversation with Jay, he enlightened about some history of this location, which has been an incredibly underserved community that before the Joker movie and HBO’s The Get Down, no one gave a damn about. As Jay explained, right after HBO’s The Get Down, there was an influx of affluent people migrating to live in this area, which caused the city council to approve of a 75 block re-zoning, demolition, and redlining of an area that has been full of low income undocumented immigrants since the 80s for a number of luxury high rises that no one in the Bronx’s original demographic can afford to live in.  When these stairs were taken over by non-Bronx residents, much of the community feared that this might cause unwanted attention to their neighborhood, causing more affluent influx, leading to more re-zoning and thus creating a hike in the price of living for people who already live there (who can’t really afford the hikes). -  As someone not from the Bronx, these issues never have impacted me, and I would’ve never heard or understood this until Jay educated me more on his community’s history and where he feared they were going. -  With all said and done, at the end of the day, it is our job as people who are visiting communities which aren’t ours to understand the demographic and respect where we visit, not to just take an Uber up there for a picture and take one right back. Just like everyone knows the affluent history of 5th Avenue (continued on comment section, important*)

I was visually inspired by this movie, so I had to call up @forgetmat   early this week to remake the iconic @jokermovie   poster with our #welevitate   twist. At first I was going to replicate even the tones, but I realized it’s kind of fucked up to copy ALL artistic choices, so I stayed true to my color choices and decided to keep the moodier version. - Swipe right to see the poster versions, ending with the original inspo. We also came out with 3 new posters, I’ll upload them throughout the week. -  Thanks @m2collective   for jumping on the video portion, coming out the 21st. -  #welevitate   x @jokermovie

Competition is part of human nature. But at what point is competition self harming? I’ve been saying that we’re living in a new renaissance for years, and a healthy amount of competition leads to new discoveries and advancements in every field. We’ve seen industries flourish under such parameters. However, my take is that the new generation needs to look at competition in a new light. Friendly competition has made my homies and I better friends and our photography better, because we don’t see ourselves as “you against me” but “us pushing each other to be better”. At the end of the day, if we fight each other for prices, we’ll ALL charge less and all lose. If we fight each other for clients, we’ll all have less of them and be less challenged. If we all fight each other for that magazine cover, we’ll all have less magazines to shoot for. Let’s grow the fuck up, because we have a limited time on this earth, and I rather have us all win than all at war. It ain’t that hard if you’re willing to put in the work tbh. Or am I wrong? - 📸 @diarydrifter

Shooting non-photoshopped sneakers in the air at NIGHT was always thought impossible.... until @kswiss   challenged (and helped) me to produce this shot. -  One of the questions @iamsantifox   asked me for #TheStartUp   campaign was “what is something you find challenging in your field”... I timidly answered “external lights”. Funny enough, when we realized that it was too dark to #levitate   (with natural light), @iamsantifox   brought out his Profoto B1-X and basically said “you know you can still levitate, right?”. He proceeded to explain the light theory of how shooting with one external light worked. As we got more comfortable, we started to play with the background, so we went for a dreamy city. The image above was one of the first images that showed us we had what we were looking for 🏆. With this said, Team work definitely makes the dream work. -  Two lessons came out of this shoot. 1) surround yourself with people that challenge you and make you constantly come out of your comfort zone (daylight vs external lights discomfort, for me). 2) be open minded and don’t limit yourself or your art to what you already know or what you think your “aesthetic” should be. I learned a great deal on this night when it was just @iamsantifox   @masonlee.me   and I, just kicking it and seeing how we can come up with cool things out of darkness. -  #WeLevitate   x @kswiss   #CEOswearsneakers

When the @kswiss   fam reached out and asked me to be a face in their #TheStartup   Campaign, I was beyond thrilled. Statistically speaking, this Ecuadorian immigrant kid raised in Queens was never supposed to have a seat at the table, yet here he is 🙏🏼. -  My parents raised me with the idea that I could accomplish anything in the world. They taught me that with determination and hard work you CAN accomplish whatever you set out to do. This simple open-minded concept has permeated into everything I’ve done, from Opera singing to Business School to Photography. My goal in life has always been to challenge myself and the people around me to create something great that we’re truly proud of. Be ambitions. Be bold. Take risks! -  Unfortunately, with the age of Social Media, people see the end result but never the process, the hustle, the ambition, the risks, the lack of sleep, the anxiety and the fear that come along with following your dream. Remember that life is a journey, and this is the process. Live it. Enjoy it. Let’s all win.  #WeLevitate   x @kswiss   #CEOsWearSneakers   #ad

It’s the simple things that matter. The slightest change in perspective can make or break your framing. I’ve learned that it’s all about harmonizing your subjects in your framing so they all tell a cohesive story. -  Play around with your framing! tell your story. #SonyAlpha   #MoodyGrams
